Nerdy Links

This is just a list of sites I like. Since I'm a huge nerd, it may come as no small surprise that these sites are a little nerdy themselves...

  • Want to help kids? Check out childhooddiseases.org and learn about a lesser-known genetic disease called Tuberous Sclerosis. My son has it, and while I don't want to make my site into a "save the children" shrine, I wouldn't mind educating a few people. If you want to help, consider downloading the "CommunityTSC" program.
  • Check out online nethack! You have to really dig old games to like it, but nethack is still one of the most complex and involved games ever, even if it is graphically barren. alt.org/nethack
  • Interested in balloon art? It's actually very easy to create simple balloon sculptures if you don't mind spending a couple bucks (and if you have any motivation, you'll make this back in no time). Visit balloonhq.com for a full guide!
  • Want to see some good java games? Check out Java on the brain and you'll see some great stuff that actually helped inspire me to wish I could write games that were at least mediocre...
  • Interested in extra-terrestrial life? Then check out Seti@home to see how you could help in the search for aliens!
Games from better programmers than me:
  • SLEUTH: Sleuth is an open-ended, detective role playing game (RPG) where you solve mysteries by searching for clues, questioning suspects and interviewing witnesses. Every mystery is unique with different victims, suspects and clues. All mysteries are solvable, in fact there are always two ways to solve any single mystery, but player skill and a small amount of luck are necessary to nab the guilty suspect.
